Google Search Options

Google has become the premiere search engine in the United States, if not the world, and it is because the folks at Google are continually working to make information much more readily available for its users. The main search page for Google (http://www.google.com/) allows users to enter a series of words into the search bar, which will present the user with a variety of web pages that may contain helpful information.

In addition to this basic search users have the option to refine their searches so that the results they receive stand a better chance of containing pertinent information. The easiest way to begin refining your search query is to click the "Advanced Search" link to the right of the search bar. The advanced search options allow the user to add additional words to their search or they may ensure certain words are not a part of the search. For example, if someone is looking for information on George Washington Carver, they may include the word "peanut" and not include the word "president", which will keep Google from returning results about the US president. Users may also specify the type of file they wish to receive, whether they are looking for a PowerPoint or a Google Earth file.

  1. I am thrilled to learn about all of the search options with Google. Being able to search more specifically will save a huge amount of time. I am particularly interested in going home and trying out the wonder wheel, since I didn't get to do that today.
